Ed Ball is part of RQM+'s Intelligence & Innovation team. He is a Chartered Engineer (CEng) and holds a MSc in Medical Engineering and a BEng in Biomaterials Science and Engineering. He has over 19 years’ experience in the medical devices industry, seven with the UK's MHRA, and 12 in industry, including 5+ years with RQM+.
Ed retains a focus on patient safety and the voice of the user, originating from his time with the MHRA. Ed has maintained that focus during his career through the application of risk management principles and tools, good design control principles, the use of applicable standards and effective quality management methods. Ed's experience encompasses a wide breadth of medical devices, including but not limited to: active devices, implantable devices, diagnostic devices, measuring devices, sterile devices, and devices used by lay people.
Ed is an active member of both ISO and UK standards committees for quality management (ISO 13485), risk management (ISO 14971), symbols and nomenclature (e.g. ISO 15223). Ed is also a member of the UK RAPS Local Networking Group and is on the UK's Institute for Physics & Engineering in Medicine (IPEM) Engineering Policy and Standards Panel.
